99% of our juices are sold by markets in Northern California. We try to make a little extra so we can fulfill orders from these stores. We liquidate this overstock at our manufacturing cost at our Emeryville store.
Cold-pressed juice is a juice made by pressing chopped fruit between two plates using either a mechanical means, like an old-fashioned cider press, or hydraulic pressure, like most modern juice presses.
Many cold-pressed juices available in stores are pasteurized using High-Pressure Pasteurization (HPP), a cold process that does not degrade either flavor or nutritional value. Not all HPP processed juice is cold pressed, however, as any kind of juice like those made from frozen concentrate. Likewise, cold-pressed juice can be pasteurized using other methods like heat or ultraviolet radiation.
At OOJOO, all our juices are cold-pressed from fresh fruits and vegetables and then pasteurized using HPP. We believe this is the best combination for making the best quality juice possible. We use presses made by Good Nature, HPP equipment from Avure.
Key takeaways as a juice buyer:
HPP pasteurized juice is not always cold-pressed juice.
Cold-pressed juice can be degraded through forms of pasteurization other than HPP.
If you want the best quality juice, look for fresh ingredients on the label and HPP processing.
High shipping and packaging costs make it impossible for us to ship less than twelve juices at a time without losing money?
